Laboratory of Innate Immune Effector Function

Welcome to Hu Lab!

Hu Lab focuses on understanding the functions of tissue-resident myeloid cells, particularly macrophages and mast cells. These cells are broadly distributed across diverse tissues at steady state and play critical roles in maintaining homeostasis.

Our lab investigates how resident myeloid cells interact with their tissue microenvironments and contribute to both physiological and pathological processes.

Research Focuses

Cellular Development

We focus on the developmental origins of tissue-resident myeloid cells and their colonization across diverse tissues, aiming to delineate their lineage trajectories and microenvironment-dependent differentiation mechanisms.

Cellular Function

We study the functional properties of myeloid and epithelial cells across tissues, focusing on their microenvironmental interactions and key roles in barrier maintenance, immune regulation, and intercellular communication.

Disease Applications

We investigate the dynamic responses and functional reprogramming of myeloid cells in major diseases, including inflammation, autoimmunity, and cancer, exploring their potential as therapeutic targets or intervention tools.
